Shopify Partner Program

The Shopify Partner Program is one of the largest partner ecosystems in commerce, with more than 100,000 partners. It covers agencies and freelancers who build stores, developers who sell apps and themes, and anyone who refers merchants to Shopify.

Referral earnings depend on when the merchant signed up. Shopify's earnings terms list a 20% share of subscription fees on referred merchants, and newer referrals combine 20% of subscription fees with 0.1% of the merchant's eligible online sales for four years. Check the current terms in the partner dashboard, as Shopify updates them from time to time.

For app developers, Shopify takes no revenue share on the first $1 million of lifetime gross app revenue, then keeps 20% of app revenue after that. Apps and themes go through a review before they are listed in the Shopify App Store or Theme Store.

Joining is free, and partners get development stores for building and testing, training and certifications, and the chance to be listed in the Shopify Partner Directory. Agencies working with larger merchants can progress into Shopify's higher partner tiers, which add account management and co-selling.
