What makes a good SaaS partner program

SaaS partner programs let agencies, consultants, resellers and software companies earn from the software their clients use. The best ones pay you well and keep paying, but the money is only part of it. A strong program also sends you clients, gives you a demo account and training, and grows its benefits as you bring in more customers.

How SaaS partner programs pay

  • Lifetime or ongoing revenue share. The most valuable programs keep paying for as long as the customer stays. Apollo pays 20% for the lifetime of referred customers, ActiveCampaign 20% to 30%, and Kinsta 10% of hosting fees every month.
  • First-year or fixed-term commission. Close pays 30% of first-year revenue, monday.com up to 20% for two years, and WP Engine 8% to 12% for up to 12 months.
  • Reseller margin. Some programs let you buy at a discount and set your own price. ActiveCampaign resellers get 25% to 55% off, and HighLevel's SaaS Mode lets agencies sell the platform as their own software.
  • Managed revenue. A few programs pay on clients you look after, not just new ones. Mailchimp & Co pays 25% on new referrals and 5% on managed clients.

Benefits worth more than commission

For many agencies, the most valuable benefit is a listing in the vendor's partner directory, where its own customers look for help. HubSpot's Solutions Directory, Apollo's partner directory and Webflow's Certified Partner directory all send work to partners. Higher tiers often add shared leads, co-marketing and a partner manager.

How to choose

Start with the software your clients already use or ask you about, because a partner program pays off when you sell or implement the product again and again. Then compare how long the revenue share lasts, what each tier asks of you, and what it costs to join. Most programs are free, but some charge fees or require spend, such as HubSpot's $400 monthly membership for agencies below its spend threshold. Use the filters above to compare programs by partner type.

Frequently asked questions

What are the best SaaS partner programs?

It depends on the work you do. Agencies often do best with programs that send leads through a partner directory, such as HubSpot, Shopify and Apollo. Consultants who mainly refer do well with long revenue share, and resellers should compare margins and white-label options.

Which SaaS partner programs pay recurring or lifetime commission?

Apollo pays 20% for the lifetime of referred customers, ActiveCampaign 20% to 30% for life, Kinsta 10% of monthly hosting fees for life, and Keap up to 30% for as long as you remain a Certified Partner. Many others pay for a fixed period, often 12 or 24 months.

What is the difference between a SaaS partner program and an affiliate program?

Affiliate programs pay anyone who drives sign-ups through a link. SaaS partner programs are built for businesses that sell, implement or integrate the software, and add tiers, certifications, directory listings, leads and reseller options on top of commission.

Can agencies earn recurring revenue from SaaS partner programs?

Yes. Agencies can earn ongoing revenue share on referred clients, margin on licences they resell, and in some programs a share of revenue from clients they manage, on top of the fees they charge for their own services.

How do I join a SaaS partner program?

Most programs start with an online application. Many then ask your team to complete certifications, and higher tiers need a number of clients or a revenue threshold. A few require software spend or a membership fee, so check each listing's requirements.
